Quote of the Day

"Microsoft has had clear competitors in the past.
It's good that we have museums to document them."
- Bill Gates, today at the Computer History Museum (former SGI HQ)

At the reception, Gates mingled in front of the wooden Apple 1, with a banner over his head: “The Two Steves.”

  • It was a night of good quotes and photos. I liked Gates' response to the question of Windows machines being used for e-voting:

"Software is magic, and people don't want too much magic in their voting system."

  • He's literally taken territory, the Computer History Museum is right next to MS Bay Area headquarters.

  • That's a little much, coming from someone who was found to have lied in his deposition under oath, and whose company was found as a matter of fact and law to have violated a settlement agreement no to break anti-trust law.

Then again, maybe this is sour grapes, since two of the products I worked on, PenPoint and GEOS, were wiped out by Microsoft due in small part to Microsoft dirty tricks and in large part to not being good enough.
